What Is Commercial Hoarding

Commercial hoarding is temporary fencing placed around construction sites and has been used in construction for decades. It is a specialized barrier built between the public and an ongoing construction site.

The main focus of commercial hoarding is to act as a safety wall. However, in the last few years, it is also being used in marketing. Large graphic signs are commonly posted on the fence to promote events or the finished project.

In this article, we will discuss several reasons why commercial hoarding is used. Additionally, we will show why it is important in construction site planning.

Shields Up, Fences Forward!

Hoarding serves many purposes and is very useful for a developer during the time of a construction project. Here are four main benefits of installing hoarding fencing around your site:

Provides safety to the public

First of all, hoarding aims to protect passers-by and people living close to the site. During construction, there’s a risk of debris and other materials flying around. These can cause injuries if someone is unlucky enough to be close to your site at the wrong time. Hoarding is a barrier that prevents these incidents from happening.

Protects materials and equipment on-site

Equipment, tools, and materials can be tempting for criminals. Having your construction site robbed means significant financial losses, and it can delay the completion of your project. Theft will ultimately damage your budget and can threaten your company image.

Creates excitement

Stores and other commercial buildings can be the heart of your brand image. If you are renovating, building a store, or introducing a new concept – you want to get people excited about it.

Serves as advertising space

Hoard fencing is a blank space that you can use to advertise. Some commercial hoardings are real works of art and entice the public eye with beautiful paintings. This adds to the anticipation while the new construction is being completed.

Rules and Regulations; When Is Hoarding Necessary?

Active construction projects or excavations sites in North America, the UK, and Australia must be enclosed and fenced. There are regulations for each country that differ by their governing bodies, so applying for permits and checking the rules before planning a construction project is vital.

For small or residential builds, contractors usually install open fencing that is doubled by mesh, even when the project is for something like a concrete sleeper or timber sleeper retaining walls. This fencing is not as specialized as commercial hoarding.

Commercial building sites must use commercial hoarding as it is required to provide more protection in areas with higher amounts of pedestrian traffic.

There are two main types of commercial hoarding. These are determined by the size and complexity of the project. Type A hoarding is simple temporary fencing that encloses the construction site. Type B hoarding provides overhead protections for pedestrians, creating a usable path.

DIY or Call In A Professional Hoarder?

Domestic and commercial hoarding should be done by professionals, as they must be built to follow safety rules and regulations that a contractor or developer will know.
